Dry Needling
Targeted intramuscular needling to release tension and trigger points.
What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a technique in which thin filament needles are inserted directly into myofascial trigger points — tight, irritable bands within a muscle — to release tension, reduce pain, and restore normal muscle function. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is grounded in modern neuroanatomy and musculoskeletal science.
Certified Training
Dr. Thigpen is a certified dry needling practitioner through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy, with training focused specifically on trigger-point identification and safe, effective needling technique for musculoskeletal pain.
Who Dry Needling Can Help
- Chronic muscle tightness and trigger points
- Tension headaches and neck stiffness
- Shoulder, hip, and lower back pain
- Sports injuries and overuse strain
- Patients who haven't found relief through adjustments alone
What to Expect
Dry needling is often combined with chiropractic adjustments and other rehabilitative modalities as part of a broader treatment plan. Most patients feel a brief muscle twitch or ache during needle insertion, followed by a noticeable release in tension. Mild soreness for a day or two afterward is common and typically resolves quickly.
